Please read all of this article, as it will have substantial impact on your current thin client installation.

NEXTerminal software switch.

First we would like to wish all our customers a happy new year. 2008 will be an exiting year for NEXTerminal, as we move into the year of Virtual desktop infrastructure from both VMware and Citrix, with Leostream and "Propero". This year will also be the year of windows "2008 terminal server" release.

Software like 2X and GraphOn also become more and more relevant as "everything" moves towards thin client production environments.

The challenge with NEXTerminalOS

Our NEXTerminalOS has been supplied with our terminals since 2004 with great success. As more and more different [client software] becomes relevant, we have to come up with a more flexible way of handling the terminal software. Some customers only need RDP. Some need ICA ,mozilla, java and SAP Gui, and other NX clients and firefox. With hardware some need wireless, EAP on wire or dual head solutions. With these request, it is impossible to stay within 64MB or even 128MB single flash image.

More flexible terminal software

Our software has been completely rewritten to eLux NG. The benefits of this software are many, where we would like to emphasize the following. eLux NG is modularized and can be configured only to contain the client software you need. With this solution you reduce the flash usage, and can continue to use the existing hardware. In addition you can save bandwidth as you will only update the single client software on theh terminal (ex 2MB) instead of sending a complete image of 64MB to each terminal. Also most of the existing hardware will be able to run 1920*1200/24bit resolutions (NEXstation III/IV/V and more old models to follow)

Two software versions are made available:

eLux lite, which still is modularized, but with a standard (not changeable) selection of clients, and use the TCM web server management only.

eLux and Scout is the complete package for administration and client software, where all packages can be selected individual by customer pr. terminal. (some packages are optional for a extra fee). With this software model you do not need top buy a special VDI version, if you use VDI, then just select the package of you choice.

New and better management software

The management software is now to be installed on a PC or a server running windows 2000 server, 2003 server, windows 2000, or windows XP. This software is also 100% different from the TCMS (running on a terminal), but much more efficient and capable of handling larger installations. The Scout is in production and can be supplied. We are still working on our solution tcm.nexterminal.dk. Customers buying eLux Lite will have Scout supplied in a time limited version until tcm.nexterminal.dk handles eLux correctly.

Migration to eLux and Scout

All NEXTerminal customers are being offered the new eLux NG software. Customers that has purchased any NEXTerminal after the 8th of December 2006 will be offered a FREE eLux NG and Scout licence.

To qualify for free software, customers/resellers must present invoices to prove purchase date to NEXTerminal. On receipt, these papers will be used as basis for the FREE licences relevant to each customer.

Terminals older than 8th Dec. 2006 will be offered a upgrade to eLux NG and Scout at 45 Euro a terminal. Customers with a significant amount of terminals should contact NEXTerminal for a special offer for the upgrades.

Customers having purchased the MT (terminal emulation) option of NEXTerminalOS will have to buy a new ericom terminal emulation suite at special price 20 EURO a terminal, regardless of the terminal age or software maintenance contracts.

Customers with a software maintenance contract will also be offered the eLux and Scout software for 'FREE'. Customers will have to accept that with eLux NG there will be NO possibility to sign a new software maintenance contract. The new releases of eLux NG will be for free. (Until the release of "eLux Reloaded" which has a upgrade fee).

Customers MUST register and activate upgrades, and claim their upgrade licences before the 8th of May 2008.

New hardware

As you may have seen on our website NEXTerminal has introduced the DesigNEX-I which is our entry model, and basically perform like the old NEXTstation III. The DesigNEX-I is extremely low powered and uses only 9watt an hour. This translates to less that one Euro a month. The DesigNEX-I is now cheaper than the NEXstation series. This model should solve 75% of all users needs.

The NEXstation-V is the successor of NEXstation-IV , now with Gigabit network card and options for PCI cards like dual screen etc. With the new software this machine is very attractive for people with need for high resolutions. With the local CPU power the terminal also candidates for local applications like skype, VoIP etc.

NEXlaptop-III is the fastest machine to date. Tt is a complete laptop (with hard disk), but eLux has been ported to support the platform. NEXlaptop-III is ideal suited for home workers, hospitals etc.

Final update for NEXTerminalOS.

For those that whish to continue on the old software platform for a while, we have released a final and last version of NEXTerminalOS 3.8.10, that contains the Ica 10.4 version of the Citrix client. You can use this version while converting to eLux NG and Scout.

We at NEXterminal wish you a happy new year 2008.

Best regards

Jan Kaspersen.
